In 2018 June, when BLACKPINK made a comeback with their 1st Mini Album – ‘Square Up’, the internet exploded. ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ gained 36.2 million within 24 hours of release which a great achievement for the girls.
Sadly, in ’17, the world couldn’t see much of BLACKPINK as only ‘As If It’s Your Last’, a single, was released. But their 2018 comeback was definitely a bop!
This track has pretty cool and savage lyrics. The choreography for this song is also legit! The Rap and Vocals are well balanced. Jennie and Lisa can be seen literally spitting fire with their rapid-fire raps. Though their raps are as savage as the ones in Boombayah, their debut song, Jennie and Lisa sound more powerful this time. The same goes for Jisoo and Rose. They showcase their smooth vocals just like they showed previously in ‘Whistle’ and ‘As If It’s Your Last’, but this time it was comparatively powerful. The lyrics boast about being charismatic and powerful
” Black, then pink, we’re pretty savages”.
The official MV:
This song’s beats are really good! Jennie’s vocals are also showcased really well. So are Lisa’s. We also see Jisoo singing her verses a bit fast which sounds more like a rap, and Jisoo slayed her verses! Rose’s verses in the bridge part and in the ending are really good. Her voice in the chorus is also really smooth and amazing. What I like the most about this track is the ending twist.
The beats in this song are simple unlike the one in DDU-DU DDU-DU and Forever Young. What really caught my attention is Lisa’s rap. The English rap suits her very well. She raps so smoothly that she legit sounds like Nicki Minaj! Jisoo’s also improved a lot when it comes to vocals and has impressed me.
See You Later:
The beats are very simple yet give the ‘mean girl’ vibe. Their vocals sound a bit monotonous but what i love the most is the meaning in the lyrics. The lyrics is all about being cold towards a boy.
“Would have…Should have…could have, didn’t.”
“See You Later, Maybe NEVER!”
